Ever received a COD Unbox message on your Shopee orders? I order in Shopee a lot, but I don’t really read all the details. I mainly focus on the price and delivery date.
Why I was given by Shopee the COD Unbox Option
But when I bought a Samsung tablet, and since it’s expensive, I noticed and paid attention to the COD unbox message. I'm not sure why I got this feature on this item, but I am thinking maybe because the Samsung tablet I ordered is quite expensive (so far, it is the most expensive single item that I ordered in Shopee). So, I thought this COD Unbox is perfect, thinking that it is Shopee’s way to show that it values its buyers and protect them as they can check the item before paying.

The HORROR STORY
When the rider arrived, I came out with a box cutter in hand since the COD Unbox mentioned that I can check the item in front of the delivery person and return it on the spot if something is wrong with it.
However, the COD unbox was denied. The rider declined to do the COD Unbox. I was confused why the delivery rider refused when he himself mentioned that he was the one who sent the message.
It is only applicable for orders up to ₱2000
The rider then proceeded to explain and mentioned the following about the COD Unbox feature:
- The Shopee COD unbox only works for items ₱2000 and below
- It is for their protection from scam orders and unscrupulous fraudulent buyers
- He will cancel the order
Out of the three items he mentioned, this one surprised me the most. Imagine that he refused to give me my parcel because I wanted to check the item first (which is Shopee’s COD Unbox is all about) then he even threatened to cancel my order right there in front of me.
Keep Calm!
Now for eveyone's information, I am calm this entire time. Surprised but not to the point that I would lose my cool. I simply told him that I read the message and no price limit indicated there. I told him that it doesn’t make sense, because the COD Unbox's message is framed in a way to protect the purchase. However, he just denied me again to inspect the item first and threatened to cancel my order (again).
Since we cannot come to a consensus, I just accepted the order.
Shopee COD Unbox Truth?
Let us now digest what happened and list down some truths about this COD Unbox feature:
- The feature is not available for all orders
- Even though you are eligible, delivery riders can deny it (they can refuse the buyer to inspect the item right then and there)
- Even if the rider denies, you can still accept the order and record a video of the actual unboxing / opening the item
What I did?
Since the rider declined for me to avail the COD Unbox feature, I still accepted the item (of course I want the item, otherwise I would have not ordered it).
I just recorded unboxing the parcel and thankfully it’s the right order. I'm glad that I received my order correctly and with no issues.

Thinking about it and reading the guidelines, the Shopee COD Unbox is actually nice.
Still confused though about the feature. I read again the guidelines posted by Shopee and it does not mention there any price limit or that the rider can cancel the order. So, is it to protect the buyer or the rider?

But this is just my experience and I’m curious about others. Have you ever tried Shopee COD unbox? Was it accepted or declined too? Did a rider also threatened to cancel your order?
