Should I leave my job and go online?

Is online job right for me? This is a question asked by people who hate their current job, or they hate their boss, or they feel like they are treated unfairly in the office. But to some, they are enticed by the flexibility of an online job's work schedule because they could no longer deal with toxic traffic.

The reasons you mentioned can certainly cause stress and make an online career seem promising. However, before you start crafting that resignation letter and saying goodbye to your boss and office, it’s important to understand that working from home and earning money from the internet is not as simple as it may seem.

There are several crucial factors that need to be considered before making the switch to an online career. Plenty of these factors are already floating in the internet so below are some unconventional and PRACTICAL questions you should ponder upon:

1. Do you only work for yourself and no one depends on you for financial support?
One important thing to remember is that shifting to an online career does not happen overnight. If it is easy as reciting ABC then a lot of people would have already jumped ship and for sure, many are already well off (not very rich but relatively rich)

But the truth is, an online job is still a job and you still have to look for one and then apply. This is especially true for freelancers. It is a competition. Getting hired is not that easy. If you are really decided to quit your day job and shift to an online career (especially you have people who financially depend on you), it would be wise to have enough savings to last for at least the next six months.

2. Can you leave without the benefits?
This is another question that needs to be addressed. Please be advised that not all online jobs offer employee benefits similar to that of a traditional job. Online projects usually pay you for the hours that you logged in. If you are sick and is unable to log in time, then you don’t have any pay. You cannot file for a sick leave or a vacation leave.

Likewise, if your current job has dependent-related benefits (out/in patient benefits for dependents), then you have to let go of that one too.

3. Can you work with the distractions?
Unless, you have a sound proof section in your home where you can work quietly, then you better you ask yourself if you can do your assigned online task(s) even with all the distractions. These distractions usually comes in the form of temptations from the bed, food, TV, etc…

If you are a mom and you have little ones running around, be sure to have excellent time and task management skills.

Final Remarks:
An online career is a great opportunity. Just imagine, working from the comfort of your own home and taking a break when you wanted to without the watchful eye of a boss or a co-worker.

However, as good as it sounds, it is not for everybody. Not everyone can just wake up one morning and say that they would be quitting and going to earn lots from the internet.

Before making any drastic life-changing choices, weigh in your options first. Examine the possible what ifs and don’t make rush decisions just because your are tired of your boss or you hate your job.
