Unfortunately, the site recently suffered the same fate as Bubblews. Basically, this means that bitLanders is no longer a site that pays. Well, the members are still rewarded. But the in-site currency stays in the site (pun intended). The site earnings can now only be used for purchasing items in the site's shop. These items are more like customizations for a member's avatar.
Prior to the changes, bitLander members have the option to cash out their in-site rewards via bitcoin or PayPal. Withdrawing as bitcoin has been decommissioned probably around 2015~2016ish -- and recently, the PayPal option cash out is no longer an option.
It is claimed that bitLanders has been up and running since 2009 or 2010. It has also been constantly paying its members through all these years. It has a reputation of being one of the legit ones since there are plenty of writing site that cheated their members out of their deserve payment. In fact, bitLanders is so honest that the site even announced that they would be halting the PayPal cash out option.
The announcement can be taken in two ways. It can be viewed positively since it shows transparency. But other members sees it negatively hence the announcement was attacked or bashed. Some pleaded to keep the PayPal withdraw option and there are those who threatened leaving the site. No one can blame them really as money is a huge contributor why people joined a writing site that pays. And if the payment feature is taken away, the member-count would naturally dwindle.
Nonetheless, the changes was not that surprising. Passive income from legit writing site that pays are very few. Writing site that pays used to flood the internet, but many turned out to be scam. While there are some who started with good intentions, they still ended not paying their members. It seems that they don't have a sustainable operation plan which is why they can no longer afford to pay the writers.
Anyway, back to biLanders. Still thankful to the site for it introduced and brought people together regardless of race and location. Introductory photo shows accumulated earnings since 2014 (1gbm ~ $1). It could have been more if one would to spend and interact more with the community.
Although a lot of members stated that they'll leave the site since there are no more money to be made, it would still be nice to pop up from time to time as the site has been good to its members through the years. Here’s to more years the site would be up and running even with the all the drastic changes and threat of abandonment from members.
