UPDATE: Due to numerous messages about other online writing sites that pay, this post has been updated to cater such inquiries (originally, this was supposed to be a review of Hubpages).
Many people ask how to make money on the internet. Unfortunately, searching for the answer to this question can be quite confusing due to the numerous results that would probably come up since there are plenty of legitimate ways to earn money online. This post will discuss these methods with special emphasis on the online writing sites that pay: Hubpages.
Hubpages
Hubpages is
one of those very few writing sites that consistently pays. The site
allows its writers (contributors) to earn passively. And apparently, it has never
missed a payment since it started its operations way back in 2005. It is quite
safe to that it has never failed to pay its online writers because no one is
complaining (no one is saying that they didn’t receive their money or online
earnings). As long as the member reached the minimum cashout of $50, they
would surely receive all amount on their balance on the 28th of the next month
in their Paypal account.
What exactly
is Passive Income? Passive income in this context basically means that once the
writer submitted and posted their work in Hubpages, it will earn over time
through views. All the writer has to do is sit back, relax, and see the money
grows to $50 (at which point, the online earnings will be transferred to
PayPal)

Steemit
Another
online paying writing site is Steemit. But it is much different from Hubpages.
If Hubpages focuses on passive income through views earned due to a high
quality article, Steemit is more like a social site where members have to
interact so that whatever they wrote and posted on the site will be liked by
other members.
In Steemit,
earnings are dependent on action of other members (if they visited, read, or
liked) on your posts. Additionally, the pay is via cryptocurrency.
All-in-all,
I did not put too much time on Steemit simply because I find it too tedious and
the earnings quite slow (you have to interact heavily or be popular to
realize a steady flow of online money). Additionally, I am not that
big of a fan of cryptocurrency. There’s a lot of fuzz and
buzz on it, but if you truly understand what cryptocurrency is, you can decide
if it is for you or not. In my case, it is not yet for me. At this point in
time, online earnings that can easily be converted to actual cash is what I
need.
Blogger
There’s a
reason why you are reading this post in Blogger – and that is because Blogger is
another online site that pays its writers. Also, the great thing about Blogger
is that it is part of Google.
So how
can you earn online by writing blogs on Blogger?
It is
actually quite simple – it is via AdSense. I won’t go into too much detail
about AdSense since there are already a lot of guides and tutorials about it.
But this I will say, no matter how many blogs you write and post, it would not
earning anything if you don’t have AdSense running on your Blogger.

Alternative to AdSense
Now don’t
fret in case your blogger is not approved for AdSense. Another method
to monetize your Blogger is through affiliate links.
Again, I won’t go to too much depth about affiliate links since the internet is
already flooding with guides and tutorials about affiliate links. But in a
nutshell, an affiliate is earned through commissions.
For
instance, you signed up for an affiliate program of a certain business or
company. If someone bought that company’s products or services through a link
posted on your website, then you gain a certain something (commission) for
driving a new customer or sales to the business or company.
Just
remember to read carefully the terms and conditions of the program you are
signing up to as it would probably contain important details such as percentage
of commission, cash out options, etc…
Upwork
Formerly
known as oDesk, this one is actually more like an online classified ad. Upwork
is one of those sites where clients looks for someone (usually called a
freelancer) to do their job posting or complete their requested projects.
There are numerous
of online jobs posted in Upwork at any given time
and some of this include writing gigs. This means that you have to apply for
the writing job and if selected, you and the client have to agree on the
payment rate.
Word of
caution though, due to the high competition, some freelancers offer their
writing services at a rate which is lower than the usual standards. Because of
this, may clients take advantage for obvious reasons (cheaper labor).
Bubblews
Now this is
one of those writing sites that have very high pays. Basically, for each view,
like, and comment received on your posts will earn one cent. On top of that,
the post can be just about anything as long as it has 300 characters (if memory
serves).
Anyway,
Bubblews is the writing site that many writers dreams of. Some submit posts
that has no essence at all (they just write for the sake of it earning).
At the peak of its operation, one can earn $50 in a day.
Naturally,
this type of business model is not sustainable. The site attracted a lot of
people that its member base grew at an unprecedented rate. And to make matter
worse, some of the members joined just to game the system.
To cut the
story short, Bubblews is no longer operational with thousands of members not
being paid.

discusses other tips about earning money online. Before reading this, be sure that
the information above is read and understand.
Beware of Scam Sites
It would
also be important to note that there are plenty of writing sites out there that
promises to pay its members online. Sadly, many of those are also scam. Scam in
this context may man two types: (a) sites that has no real intention of
paying its members; (b) those with good intentions but unable to fulfill
their obligations due to different factors. A good example of the former is that
their main objective is just to gather information of people. While the latter
may have not proper planning or whose business model is not that sustainable.
Beware of Low Pay
This warning
has been briefly touched in the preceding sections. But in case some readers
missed it, or to reiterate, beware of sites (and clients) whose payment is too
low.
Just think
about it, the whole objective is to earn from the internet. Not to fulfill
other’s requests without gaining anything or being properly compensated.
NEW Online Writers / Freelancers
Newbies in
the world of online freelancing may want to consider joining Hubpages as it is
a good stepping ground to build portfolio of your
work samples and at the same time earn money from it.
A content or
article posted in Hubpages or in any of its partner-sites earns passively
due to views. To ensure that no one will spam and cheat the system by
simply submitting any post with little to no quality, the site has rules before
a content can be posted. In fact, these writing guidelines somewhat even
teaches the writer/member about the necessary points on how to make a great
article and how it should be Google-friendly.
If the
article is approved, then that means it is already an acceptable article /
content. It can now earn passively when someone visited it organically. On top
of that, when applying for a writing project, you can
showcase your work by giving the client a link to your posted
content.
VETERAN Online Writers / Freelancers
Additionally,
